I felt a little trepidation when given the Charlotte Tilbury makeup palette to review – I’m not a big makeup person, plus I am definitely not a selfie-taker (ie: I’m not 17 and let’s face it, pouting in front of a camera which just refuses to show me in a half decent light is not my idea of fun!). However, I was pleasantly surprised – by the makeup, not the selfie.
Charlotte Tilbury is a luxe makeup & skincare brand created by the British make-up artist of the same name. I tested out the ‘Filmstars on the Go’ Cream Duo for eyes, lips and cheeks. The packaging is beautiful – sophisticated, luxe and compact – perfect for those rare times you’re actually carrying a small purse rather than an enormous mum-bag. It also includes a mirror which is a must-have in my opinion.
When I first opened the compact I’ll admit I was a bit taken aback. The colours were bronze glitter (eyes) and bright orange (lips and cheeks).
Don’t let looks deceive you! Upon application, the bronze cream eyeshadow was very subtle and very flattering. The hint of glitter takes it up a notch, however it’s definitely not overpowering and could easily be suitable for daytime just as well as night. The cheek colour proved the same – a subtle hint of colour, more like a gentle peachy-pink than the orange you first see inside the compact.
The duo compacts don’t come with an applicator – something I was unsure about. But seeing as they are cream colours and not powder, it was easy to apply, blend and wipe off with fingers only. Obviously this adds to the product’s appeal as an ‘on the go’ beauty fix.
Verdict: the Charlotte Tilbury cream duo’s are definitely a useful little pick me up to take along with you – and get you photo-ready for all those selfies 😉
